Le Mans Series ~ Round 4, Hungaroring, Budapest
Although
a new venue for the Le Mans Series, the
4.3 kilometre Hungaroring circuit has been
on the Formula 1 calendar since 1986, when
it became the first racetrack from behind
the "Iron Curtain" to host a
Grand Prix. Located just outside the village
of Mogyoród, the Hungaroring is
less than half an hour's drive from the
Hungarian capital of Budapest, and ranks
as one of the country's top tourist attractions.
Built into a valley, the area tends towards
the dryer end of the weather spectrum,
and the twisty, undulating and occasionally
bumpy track is also narrower than most,
making it slower than many. RML's trio
of drivers arrived on a high after winning
LMP2 in the Algarve, and with the benefit
of a successful test at the Hungaroring
in April. They departed well-satisfied
by fourth overall at the end of a remarkable
and historic race.
